CAJU is the latest expression of renowned Jackson- and Bozeman-based CLB, a cross-disciplinary design firm. Within the home’s 2,400 square-feet, every detail was carefully considered in an attempt to accentuate its design and spectacular setting. The simplicity of the materials — the materials palette (inside and out) features only three materials: steel, wood, and concrete — and warmth of CAJU’s spaces elevate the experience of being inside the home in a very literal sense. Visible through the treetops, views of Sleeping Indian and Jackson Peak, two prominent peaks on the eastern side of the valley, offer the perception of gazing from high up. Sightlines from the wooded back patio through the open living room allow you to be isolated, yet attached.
The name “CAJU” comes from a Brazilian fruit that has a rusty red exterior and a sweet, white interior. Expressed as a home, the red is corten steel and the white larch and concrete.
Built into a hillside, CAJU’s ground floor has a minimal footprint. Here there is a well-equipped gym (if you’ve got any legs left after a day of skiing, biking, or hiking), the garage, a mud room, and the laundry room. Steel stairs invite you to ascend to the home’s heart. Arriving in the open kitchen/dining/great room, the restrained palette grabs you as much as the mountain views. The space is simple, but not simplistic. The aesthetic somehow both Japanese and Scandinavian. (The owner points out that the fireplace is “certainly very Tadao Ando.” Ando is a Pritzker prize-winning Japanese architect.)
CAJU’s three guest suites are in the southern wing of the home. One of these has four twin size bunks; the other two have queen size beds. The bathrooms for each of these are similar and feature large walk-in showers and stainless steel vanities.
The primary suite is at the north end of the home. It, too, has a queen size bed, but its bathroom has a stainless steel deep soaking tub that overlooks the backyard and a separate WC. An east-facing window in the primary bedroom has views of Jackson Peak.
Accessible from both the main space and the hallway connecting the three guest suites is a deck furnished with custom pieces and connected to the well-treed backyard. An east-facing, shaded and more intimate deck is adjacent to the kitchen.
Once your lodging is secured, a member of The Clear Creek Group Concierge team will work with you to build an itinerary for your visit to Jackson Hole!
