Even though this historic treasure survived years on the tracks, a collision, the hurricane of 1954, and many years thereafter, it began to fall into ruin due to years of neglect. Unrecognizable as anything but a run down shack, the new owners were about to demolish it until they discovered what they had. Trolley Car #8 sent down from Laconia Car Company, Laconia NH in 1904!
Once used as a popular form of transportation from Newport to Fall River in the early 1900's, this historic trolley was retired after a collision in Portsmouth. It was eventually brought to its current location on Baker Road in 1948 and used as a summer vacation home. The original owners added the large addition they used as a common room.
Now sought after by New England museums, the trolley has been restored to as close to original as possible, right up to the ceilings and glue-glass windows. The "great room" is now a studio style, large bedroom w/ double bed, sleeper sofa, 12 ft. sliding glass doors facing the west shore and sliders facing north and leading to the private deck and outdoor shower. The Galley kitchen has a two burner induction range, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. The new full bathroom has a tile shower and antique sink; both kitchen and bath have hand crafted counter tops and cabinets.
Enjoy stunning views of Narraganset Bay, Lighthouses and amazing sunsets. Near Newport "City by the sea" famous for its scenic beaches, music festivals, opulent mansions, unique shops, five star restaurants and popularity among boating enthusiasts. Only 10 min to historic Bristol where they host the oldest Fourth of July Parade.
